Last weekend Matt and I hauled the boys to a dance competition that my high school-aged sister in laws were performing in.
I noticed while we were there that there were not many young children or babies- I guess most families with high school aged kids have that generational gap where there are no babies around. But not if you belong to Matt's family... when he was in high school his sisters were babies, and now that they are in high school WE have babies who get to come around and watch them.
So ANYWAY. I had actually noticed to myself that I was in a place with no children for once (unlike the other places I frequent, church and Target). BUT as we were leaving, I spotted from a distance another infant car seat! I said out loud, "Yay! Another baby!"
But as we approached the baby, and I proceeded to try to make eye contact with the mommy, you know what I noticed? It was a
PRETEND baby... and the mommy was a junior high student! Home economics 101! Lame.
It took everything in me not to scare the 13 year old by asking her if she wanted to practice with the real thing. I never took a home ec course or got practice with a fake baby, so I guess I can't be sure, but I'm gonna assume that those fake babies are nowhere NEAR as challenging as the real thing.
I mean, surely they are not smart enough to wait till they have clean diapers on to poop in them. I doubt they have blowouts. I doubt they have gas. I doubt they flail their arms and legs because they have no control of them and need to be swaddled in order to sleep. I doubt they are smart enough, once swaddled, to then immediately poop so that mommy must unswaddle them again. They definitely aren't smart enough to start crying without fail the
very second that their two year old brother is going down for a nap. No way.
Of course they don't smile either, so I highly doubt they are anywhere NEAR as fun! They probably don't "coo" at you or talk to you or steal your heart!
Dear Sammers, I wouldn't trade you for a fake baby in a million years.
