two awesome things

First. For me the words "never" and "minivan" have sort of always gone hand in hand. Minivans are so ugly. Can't someone make them look cool? But recently I have been thinking a lot about how much people (myself included) care about our image and how stupid that is. During this thought process and time of reflection, I started to consider how people wear certain clothes and drive certain cars, all to give off a certain image. Who are we trying to impress anyway? All of the other soccer moms with black Tahoes out there? (No offense, soccer mom, you are cool. Ahem, my sister.)

But anyway, I've started to think to myself, "What's so bad about a minivan?" At almost the exact same time, one of my good friends started to sport a minivan. Coincidence? I think not.

Matt could not be more opposed. I keep telling him he needs to get over himself. (Funny, since we all know that I am the one who really needs to get over myself.)

But this discussion became very real to us on Monday when I was driving Matt's really old car home from the gym and it just straight up died on me. I told him we might be getting a minivan sooner than we expected. He keeps telling me to shut my mouth about the minivan. :) Hopefully his car will just get fixed and we won't have to have this debate.

Next. We're thinking of throwing baby a conception party. I know the exact date of his conception because I'm cool and keep track of stuff like that, and since his life did technically begin on that date, why not have a party to celebrate? Thoughts? It's coming up really soon.

Party Animal

Matt's younger brother, Michael, got married yesterday.  Here are some pictures of Henry getting ready for the party and at the party!

Bath time before the big party!

Big smiles!

I will change this so it's not sideways soon.  This is Henry w/ his tux, equipped w/ clip on tie and all.  He's also wearing some polo shoes.
Henry and Mommy.  He decided he would be quiet the whole wedding but cry during pictures.

He slept through his first date!  The baby girl is Lucy, born to our good friends Justin and Sally.  Lucy was born 9 days after Henry.

I told you it was a shrine.

For my first mother's day we went to church, then to lunch w/ Matt's family at Hula Hut and then over to dinner at Dad's. (I should mention that he slaved over a brisket, some chicken and some sausage, and made the best banana pudding anyone has ever tasted.)

Holly, Cindy's middle daughter, is a photographer, and snapped this picture of Henry for us.

Look at those eyes!

I wouldn't be surprised if Henry weighs 15 pounds already! I've been holding him most of the day today, and my back and neck and arms are sooo sore. More than one person has made a comment to him along the lines of, "You aren't missing many meals, are you?" Nope, not many.

sleepy fella

Henry has this new sleep position where he sticks his nose up in the air and cocks his head back. We think it's pretty cute! Here are some sleeping pictures.

Today was his first day to go to the nursery at church. He slept almost the whole time! Boy has a lot of growing to do. :) More to come soon.

a day in the life...

We are in the middle of sleep training (see Gibbizarre), and last night Henry stayed asleep till 5AM, and then he woke up and fake cried till 6:30. There are two victories here. First, that he's not waking up at 3 AM, and second, that he is waiting longer to wake up and start crying.

So, we are about 10 weeks in, and starting to have some normalcy! But anyway, we are officially down to 5 eating times a day for the little man. He eats at or around 6:45am, 10:30am, 2:30pm, 6:00pm, and 9:15pm.

In between those times, we usually make at least one Starbucks run, one McDonald's run, and maybe go on a walk, hang out w/ friends, and since he's gotten his vaccines, we've ventured out to HEB, Target, Babies R Us, etc. When we are at home and he is asleep, I try to get chores done, so I should probably not be doing this right now. When we are at home and he is awake, I try to play with him and pay as much attention to him as possible.

On Tuesday mornings, I go to a mom's group through my church and bring Henry with me. I think we are going to start meeting up with some neighborhood mom's at a coffee shop down the street from my house on Friday mornings. On Wednesday nights we have our small group from church at our house. On other free nights, Matt will watch Henry for about an hour after the 6:00 feeding and let me go to the gym to workout!

So that is a little bit of what we're up to! Feel free to leave comments or questions! I have only allowed family and close friends to access this blog.

Rolling Over

Henry rolled over for the first time on April 15th. He would have been almost 7 weeks at that point! At first I thought it was a fluke, so I only told Matt, but then the next day I was video-ing his tummy time, and got it on the record. No fluke, and he has done it several times since then! Here's the video. It's not too great because I wasn't expecting him to roll.

Way to go, big fella!

Month 3 - Some Pictures and Stats

Henry in his carseat while we were on a walk.

This is Henry's bouncer that he likes to sit in when I am in the shower, and at other times!  He LOVE to stare at the Panda Bear!  I caught him smiling at the Lion today though!

His 2 month check-up was last Wednesday.  He was 13 pounds, 8 ounces and 24 inches long.  He measures in the 78th percentile for weight, the 88th percentile for height, and the 70th percentile for head circumference.  He also got his vaccines at that appointment, so we are making more public appearances! More to come.

how do you measure success?

With a 10 week old, there are several ways to measure success.

How many hours does your baby sleep at night?  What are his height and weight percentiles?  Does he roll over?  How often do you feed him?  How often does he poop?

But, if you don't mind, I think I have found a better way to measure success...

And we're back... another post about not much

Tonight (this morning), baby waited till 4:50 AM to start crying. And as difficult as it is to sit and watch him scream on the baby monitor, it is much harder to go pick him up and try to sing him back to sleep (still no rocking chair), so we're just going to let the kid cry till I can't stand it anymore. Who's going to win? It's on, baby!

Who am I kidding? He always wins.

But you know, being at home with a baby all day makes me much less sensitive to this crying. It's much harder for Matt. He keeps trying to tell me that he's cold, needs a diaper change, etc. But Matt knows that if he goes in there, he will experience mom wrath, and so he is forced to grin and bear it.

Anyway, I'd like to go ahead and note that after 50 minutes of solid crying, he's backing down a little, and I just might win this little battle. Boo ya, baby.

I don't know what's worse, listening to the little guy wail or listening to Matt crunch his cereal. They both make me cringe and want to tear out the insides of my ears.

About the comment in my last post about wishing I had kids sooner- I'm sure if I did have kids 3 years ago, I would have said it was too soon and that I wish I would have waited. So, you know, maybe hindsight isn't 20/20. Little man came at the perfect time.

Well, it's been an hour, and he's back at it again. You think I can leave him there till 7 AM? If I can, I will count it a victory. I'll let you know how it goes. Till next time...

vowed never to blog about poop

The last time I posted in the 4 AM hour, I was in the pregnant club. Tonight, I am awake because we are trying to drop our 3 AM feeding, and my child is letting out heart-wrenching cries while Matt takes his turn at trying to put him back to sleep. We've been at it for an hour now, and he does not appear to be letting down. All I can think is that it is a mistake not to have a rocking chair... getting one TODAY.

I don't have that much to say right now, mainly because I am so distracted by the little drama king's pitiful cry. And, back when I wasn't a mom, I made a promise to myself that I would never blog about my baby's poop - not that there's anything wrong with that. Tonight, I am keeping that promise. And it's better for both of us that I don't gab about political things or current events. So, since it's been awhile, I'll just give you guys a technical update. BORING. I know.

Little H went to his 2 month check-up last week, and the porker has put on more than 5lbs since he was born. Kid likes to eat. He's growing out of his clothes fast!

As for me, I love being a mom. I wish I would have tried to have kids sooner, instead of trying to find the perfect job or lifestyle or whatever. I keep thinking to myself that there is no job in the world I could ever love as much as I love this baby. Anyway, don't get me started. Hindsight is 20/20, they say, and though I am sure that my life is all working out according to plan, if I had it to do over again, I would have tried to have children 2-3 years sooner.

BP most likely ruined our summer vacation w/ their oil spill. :( My fam has been going to Gulf Shores, AL since I was in diapers, and we were planning to go back again this year, but not if the beaches are black and oil-ridden. I'm thankful that is the worst of it for me, though, and feel so sorry for those who are losing their livelihood.  Well, I guess I lied about the no current events talk.

Anyway, well my genius husband got the kiddo back to sleep, so I am going to go back to sleep as well. Nighty night.
